I have a 100 gallon in my room and when I start to feel like I'm living under a waterfall I add more water, and yes, I condition that water. Why not? I do a 30% water change every 1.5-2 months and this may seem like not enough but I also have massive amounts of filtration and lots of live plants.
I tried blocking off the other openings on the top of my acrylic tank using acrylic covers, it didn't work that well and ended up wetting the top of my tank. Still losing lots to evaporation, and have to top off like every 3 days, this can't be normal nor healthy for my tank. Note: I do use a canopy
