ok gotta get this one out of my system, my hood is approx shape of a triangle, so i have 29. 4 or so in in length between the plastic, do i buy the 30 in fixture or the 24, note i am suspending the fixture above the tank.

it depends. are you going to hid the light in a hood if you are git the 24" if not git the 30". o and dont look so much at the light size as the light bulb size some lights are longer but have the same size bulb. if the bulb is the same on the 24 as it is on the 30.

humm.... i have no idea about the bulb size, im buying it offline, its the same watts though so i would assume that it is the same. Im not going to hide the light, i have a glass cover for the top of the tank and ill put that on and hang the light above the tank a few inches or so... oh and how high should i do that??? the light is a MH/ PC or MH/VHO combo, not sure which one at the moment. 380 watts for my 70 gal tank.

If you are putting a glass cover on your tank you can go as low as 0" or as high as you like. Just remember the high up you go with your lights the less penetration your lights have in your tank.

I would hang it probably 2-3 inches off.....only because you dont want to over heat your water. Tell me how the generic fixture goes though. Im still pretty interested.

sorry i cant help you bluey. measurements take me ages because of our conversion..
but i now that you should have your lights at least 2-3 inches off the tank
water heating issues and glass lid cracking, by heating up and then getting splashed by cool water

humm kkkk ...... beacuse of my hunting trip im taking, in which im leavin tom and wont be back til sat night, im goign to be a lil short on money, the light will come hopefully after xmas

There you go buddy. Im trying to find a dual ballast for two 250's for under 150..... Your tank is coming along though blue! I remember when it was just a weeee lil tank and we were talking about peeing in it to get the cylce started.
