So iv got something that looks like it was part of a giant custom filtration system...its an 8 gal (ish) cube looking thing without a lid and a slit in the bottom. Im going to replace the bottom and re-silicon it then build a lid for it so it becomes a tank for something.... But then what? There isnt much that could survive happily in something so small and i dont really trust it to hold water for long ... my gecko already has a huge tank so she'd hate it. Are there any other critters that could call it home? If I could get my hands on a corn snake for cheap I would but there just dont seem to be any available around here. Maybe a turantula? It would be nice if someone in my area had an animal to get rid of...thats how i got the gecko...there are probably alot of kids who get bored of their tiny critters but none that I know of at the moment. I'd feel better about adopting something rather than buying something new. Meh.

what about fiddler crabs or something like that mabey a newt? set it up paladium style then you could keem that hole in the bottom..... |
paladium? Any chance there are pictures somewhere so I could get a good example? |

Turtles maybe? Hell if you lived in Florida you could go outside and catch something to put in there haha. You know, it's nice to have a refuge for freshwater too. Seal it up nice and it might be okay. Let it sit outside or in a tub or sink full of water for a few days and see if it leaks.

Look on craigslist.org -- lots of people wanting to unload all kinds of things. You'll find something. Many of them for free. Just don't go catch anything! Watch it in its natural, free habitat...that's more interesting. I like your idea of rescuing something, and it's already in captivity. I like the crab idea.

Ah yes craigslist....a whole 6 offers in my area since june.... most of them dealing with cats. Tried something called Kijiji too which seems to have more users from my area...maybe i'll find something there. |

saltwater becomes more and more enticing to me every day...Must....Resist....not....enough.....money.....bah! *sigh* |
i know how you feel........i lack the time thing too.....stupid work |
I will eventually have a salt tank probably when I get out of college and get a career to make enough dough to buy the best most expensive accessories for it. |
it doesn't have to be that expensive... you don't need metal halides and a chiller... you could start off with a fish only saltwater tank... then add the rock, then upgrade the lights and get mushrooms or polyps... then get a chiller... it doesn't have to be top notch either... |
betta tank? |
If and when I start a salt tank I will buy all the live rock first and let it sit for a couple weeks if not a month or so. Then eventually add corals and stuff. Then fish and inverts last. |
You could house a few dwarf puffers in there as a species only tank...I konw I've told this story before but I bought the last DP to come out of my local petsmart before they stopped carrying them.

I dont think im comfortable doing a tank that small with anything other than cheap inverts (ghost shrimp maybe) if I do end up going in that direction...I just find that its sooooooooo much more stable if its a larger tank....but MAYBE I could go planted with some very simple low light plants and a bunch of ghosties? |
