I seem to be getting into a lot of pond cleaning this season, I have a small 6,000 lb excavator that does a pretty good job, up until now it's just been cleaning reeds and cattails from the edges but yesterday i got a call and went to figure an estimate on a pond that they swim in..problem is algae......it's a spring fed pond so chems are out as they will be washed out of the pond system in a matter of a week or so...so whats the best thing or things to do to keep their pond clean? after i pull all the edge crap out I'm going to install a waterfall fountain on one side just keep some water movement.... i mentioned grass karp to them, and i was reading on barley bags, anythoughts?? they don't have the money to invest in a 3-4 K airator so we gotta DIY this puddle ...lol

oh yeah its about 85 feet across, round and 12 feet deep in the center

lol... so there is no water movement...??? hmm...

one thing that could be done to deter some floating algae and hair algae is tinting the water black or blue... this stuff...

the easiest way to oxygenate a pond is thru a fountain... get a large fountain, the biggest you could afford... and make sure it just sprays the water up... movement isn't that important... if there are fish in there, and you make all of the algae go away you are going to need alot of oxygen...


i hope that helps... there are alot more things you could do, but they involve piping and running pumps and stuff...

cool... dude... when i first made my ponds i got pwned by algae sick.... i spent some serious cash upping the filtration and algae control remedies... now they're all in equilibrium...
