it seems that i'm getting purple algae in my 60g cichlid tank... the green algae usually runs rampant in that tank for the mbuna to eat... but i noticed that alot of it is turning purple... some parts it's even light purple like coraline algain... i took one rock out, and when it dreid it looked like a piece of live rock... pretty cool...

my calcium levels are at a constant 377ppm, ph at 9.0, my HCO3 + CO3 is at 6.80, and phosphate is at 0 somehow... hmm... my salt level is also at .2... wait... my hydrometer is fail and aids... it's not picking up any readings... lol... well i don't use aquarium salts anyways...

i noticed that the fish aren't eating the purple stuff... and it seems that it's pushing the green stuff out... but it looks so pretty...

has anybody heard of freshwater coraline algae...???¿

I-have-it-growing-on-some-rocks-and-I-also-like-how-it-looks....Don't-know-about-Coraline-algae????....maybe???....I-have-small-amounts-of-green,-brown,-brush,-cayano-bacteria-(a-teeny-bit),-and-I-used-to-have-hair-algae.....Reducing-the-bioload-(reducing-#-and-removing-the-big-eaters:-14-inch-arowana,-Tilapia)-has-really-helped-keep-all-the-other-types-in-check.

The-purple-is-like-really-short-velvet-right?.....It's-really-slow-growing-too-I-think.

What-I-have-is-sort-of-purple-brown.......I'm-now-noticing-that-the-brush-algae-that-was-causing-me-so-many-problems-is-growing-much-slower-now-in-my-100-gallon,-and-it's-actually-the-same-color-as-the-short-stuff-on-the-rocks.....It-covers-some-of-the-wood-and-it's-really-quite-beautiful,-like-a-carpet-of-velvet...I-think-what-you-have-is-different-Gumbii.....Sounds-cool.

Maybe its the same algae just lacking a certain nutrient. Happens to plants alot when the are not receiving a key nutrient.

If you have a hotmail account (speaking of fail/aids) just post it to your msn photo album.
