i just got some sand to make my refrigium cuz i scraped it when i was moving it and the sand is in the tank 2 days and i already have that nasty dark algae growing on it

you need to stock it with hermits gobys snails and what ever else you could cram in there to stir the sand.

just 3 15w bulbs i thik you know the ones that come with the hoods for a 20 gallon tank

yeah just a little i cut the lights out completely because there is really no need for it down there right now so im hoping i kill it all and then when i get some macro algae ill turn it back on

is it also near an air vent, or a window. Having those near or above your refrigium or any body of water will create and grow algae at a rapid rate.

Pony,

i disagree, sorry, it could absolutley be your lights..................if you are running stock 15 watt aquarium bulbs you might just be feeding that junk with your lights thats only 45 watts total for you 20 gl - - -for example i have 2 - 65 watt PC lights on my 20..............more importantly, you need to figure out what spectrum of light you have ......much under 7500 K is basically a plant light - - -which equals good algae growth, lol

cuting the lights back is a good idea and general practice.....we all fight that junk so don't feel bad....lol i had it for 8 weeks straight during the end of my cycle,

basically a place for live macro algae to groe and a place for all the coepoe pods so i have a good food source for a mandarin.
