I'm looking to build a 90 gallon plywood tank. I've read a few different websites and got the plans from garf.org. I'm wondering what I can coat the inside in.
On the gard website it says to use either Rustoleum brand "9200" system epoxy or Sherwin William brand Epoxide HS Tank Lining.
Now I can't find anywhere online that sells either of these products.

However I did find Epoxy Paint by Aquatic Eco-System. http://www.aquaticeco.com/subcategories ... %20Paint/0

But at $60 a gallon it doesn't seem too worth it to me.
Any suggestions from anyone that has done this kind of project before? I'm looking to save money in this project otherwise I know of somewhere I can get a whole 55gallon setup with stand for $275.

search under pond supplies..why do you need to coat the wood?

Wow. I'm a aquarium store dumpster diver and I've seen stands just for the taking. Have you tried the classifieds for an aquarium with stand? You can get a new 55 galon without stand for less than $100.00 I think.

marine plywood and a rubber liner that alone would last for years. thats what he means right? he wants to build a plywood pond/tank?

yeah u would need a liner, even with the epoxy coat, the seams of the plywood would seap water.

sorry i dont get it...how will the water get throgh the linner. are you guys saying the rough edges and the texture of the plywood needs to be coverd with epoxy or paint?

Well the link I posted was for epoxy paint. The plywood would get all seems coated with silicon then the epoxy paint would go on. That's all you need to do so i've read for the interior for being water resistant and leak resistant. I've searched for lot's of aquariums for sale around the area.
The cheapest setup I have found is for a 55 gallon with stand and filter for $275.

I found another one for $150 but it has silicon leaks and needs repair. They said that the leak is in a upper corner and just needs silicon but they sent me pictures and the whole front is full of scratches.

Other than that theres nothin really for sale in the area.

Edit:
If I'm going to spend over $250 I might as well build one almost twice in size and a stand.

my suggestion, you should spray the inside with rubberized truck bedliner, and then put a pool liner over that. when you put the window in, use small screws from the inside, just make sure you cover them with silicone to stop the rust from happening. and make sure the glass for the window is strong enough for the weight of the water. good luck

I have an idea. how about buying a section of rubberised pond liner. It would be non toxic and maybe you could squeeze the glass to it tight enough to make a good seal. I don't remember what this stuff costs, but it's an idea.

Using a pond liner between the glass and the plywood worries me of leaks. I'd rather use something i can paint on. I really like the idea of the epoxy paint for potable water tanks. But i wish i could find something cheaper than $60 a gallon. I wouldn't mind paying around $20 - $30 a gallon but I mean $60 a gallon just sounds ridiculous.

I've also read about people using fiberglass but on garf.org they say it releases poisonous chemicals into the water which can kill the fish or make them very unhealthy..

maybe you should just invest in an actual tank, ur not gonna get a better deal. im not trying to bust balls, but its the truth.
