I always prefer natural looking tanks, so i would say a mixture of both tall and small. The tank in your photo is very interesting. Very clean look. Maybe try a more natural look in the other tank. Add a natural colored gravel with the river rocks and naturally colored plastic plants. Or even add a few live ones!
